To many, Friday 13th is considered as
an unlucky day, but for Tracy Begent, it
was the day she took rein of King Henry
VIII Inn in Hever. Located across from
the gates of Hever Castle on Hever
Road, the pub has been there since 1597, albeit under a series of different names.
As well as catering for visitors to the
area, it is also very much a locals pub too. In winter you can warm up next to the open fires and in the summer you
can relax in the beer garden - although
don’t forget your sun protection as it is a sun trap out there. |

Although Tracy has moved into the
pub with her husband, he still goes out
to work so she runs the place singlehandedly.
This doesn’t phase her in the
slightest though as she has a long history
working within the brewery industry.
There is much work to be done and
Tracy has some great plans for the
future of the pub too.
Food is one of Tracy’s priorities and
she has sought the help of chef Simon
Smith, who she has worked with i n
the past. Prior to coming to
Hever, Simon has worked
at a number of exclusive
establishments - The
Dorchester (London),
The Grand (Brighton)
and the Royal Hotel
(Winchester). He has
made food for the
Royal Family and
celebrities alike
