Hello
some time ago I contacted you to ask your TV/Radio Station
to support the parents of pupils of Eden Valley School, at
that time the school was under threat of closure by Kent County
Council.
Unfortunately the school is to close by the 31st of August
this year, however parents are now faced with issues connected
to that decision and would like the support of the media.
Parents having been forced to send their children to the two
nominated single sex schools Bradbourne Girls and Wilderness
Boys are now being told they will have to bear the cost of
new uniform, and have been offered a measly £50 "Discretionary
Grant" towards the cost. You may say so what, however
the uniform for Bradbourne Girls can only be obtained from
John Lewis Bluewater and that the coat
is compulsory and costs £48.

£221.10p for one pupil not including some other items
on the list, it is expected that the uniform cost will rise
to around £300 or more.
Now I would ask you, do you think it is fair that parents
should have to bear the burden of the uniform cost when the
change of school has been imposed on them. A Parent Governor
recently said in the Edenbridge Courier, many parents are
on low incomes and send their children to Eden Valley because
it is local to where they live.
Additionally I would like to add that the number of Public
Objections to closure came to 1628 this included a petition
of 1500 signatures, the number that were infavour of the school
closing was 59.
Your
News Team should contact KCC Local Education Authority
Representative Dr Ian Craig or the District Schools Officer
Chris Lay
or Cabinet Chairman Leyland Riding for their comments.
