
The miseries facing Africa's children and families today
are immeasurable. Countries in southern Africa and Ethiopia
have been pummeled by drought and again assaulted by
a relentless HIV/AIDS epidemic. The result is a severe
food crisis that is a wrecking ball against the basic
foundation of society.
Acute
levels of malnutrition are threatening the lives of
children across the region. Families are forced to
leave their homes in search of food. Children are being
taken out of school to work to help their families find
or pay for food - or worse: some are forced into prostitution
in order to procure food. High rates of HIV/AIDS have
left many child-headed households increasingly vulnerable
