DIGGING UP THE PAST – THE CIVIL WAR THAT SPLIT THE EDEN VALLEY 1642 – 1660

A fascinating exhibition, curated by Claire Donithorn, telling the story of the English Civil War in the Eden Valley and inspired by a donation of artefacts discovered by a metal detectorist at Starborough Castle. Visitors can decide whether they would have been a Cavalier or a Roundhead after reading about the effects of the civil war on local communities and great houses.

CRESTED CHINA – A POTTED HISTORY

A delightful display, curated by Joan Varley, of a wide variety of early 20th century small china objects featuring the Edenbridge Crest with some stamped ‘Made for the Chronicle Office Edenbridge’. A swan, an elephant, a lighthouse, and a WW1 tank are just a few examples from an eclectic collection loaned to the museum by local resident Colin Fairman.

THE MANOR HOUSE OF DELAWARE

A model of the Manor House of Delaware is now on display at the museum. Owned by the Seyliard family who feature in the Civil War exhibition.

WESTERHAM AND EATONBRIDGE HUNDRED

Also a map of Westerham and Eatonbridge Hundred, 1797-1801 is now on display in the entrance to the museum. See if you can identify where you live now.

We are pleased to announce that the Museum has appointed Charlotte Moon, as an Education and Community Project Officer, a valuable asset for the future of the Eden Valley Museum.
