A Short History of Hospitals and

Healthcare inthe Eden Valley

A.D. 1075 to 2012

6 FEBRUARY - 21 DECEMBER

Using documents from the museum’s archives and stories from local people we paint a picture of the development of healthcare for the poor and sick of the Eden Valley. Cowden emerges as a model village for the care of its rural population and Edenbridge shows its 'metal' in raising the money to build its war memorial hospital and the fight against growing bureaucracy for its survival. Records from Hever demonstrate some healthcare that would raise eyebrows today.
