| For
over 100 years the sound of brass has filled the air over the Edenbridge
area from the Edenbridge Town Band who were first documented when
a joint concert was performed with the Edenbridge String Band in
1893. Today, the band flourishes with a total membership of around
45 musicians, whose ages start from 8 years old, right up to the
oldest member who joined the band over 65 years ago. |

For over half
a century, the band practised every Wednesday night in a small
wooden hut at the back of the Doggetts Barn in the Church House
Precinct. The band continued to rehearse here until we moved to
our new purpose built bandroom, in the Market
Yard car park in 1988.
Although most
of the Edenbridge Town Band live in the Edenbridge area, some
travel from as far afield as Caterham, Crowborough, Forest Row,
and Haywards Heath to take part. Like many brass bands there is
a loyalty and enthusiasm which runs right through the whole family,
with parents, children and even grandchildren coming together
to make music, under the baton of our Musical Director Mr David Pocock. The family spirit extends even further than just this
stage, as those who are not so musical, have formed themselves
into a dedicated and hard working supporters group providing much
appreciated help and encouragement. |
