Nine people from the Edenbridge and District Twinning Association (EDTA) attended a social event in the mountains of Alsace last week. It was organised by our twin town Mount St Aignan, in France, who are twinned with Edenbridge and also Barsinghausen in Germany, Brzeg Dolny in Poland and Osica de Sus in Romania.
Travelling to Mont Saint Aignan we joined with the fifteen of the French party and set off by coach to the East of France where we met up with seven Germans from Barsinghausen.

The location was at altitude in the Vosges Mountains near Soultzeren, Alsace. Activities included a topical visit to Strasburg to tour the European Parliament building, discussions about the recent European elections and a quiz related to European legislature. There was also lots of opportunity for tours of sites of local interest, monuments and the beautiful villages that were only a short coach trip away. Alsace is also famous for its cheeses, ales and wines and our hosts had arranged visits to a farm making cheeses, a brewery and a vineyard so we could see and sample the produce at first hand. Although we were feasted at the chalet complex where we stayed, the combined ‘twinners’ also shared visits to restaurants where we tasted specialty dishes of the region. |
