Youth Focus for Annual Chairman’s Reception, Edenbridge Town Council
Young people were the focus this year at the annual Edenbridge Town Council Chairman’s reception yesterday, Monday 14 December.Traditionally, the Chairman uses this opportunity to thank some of the large number of volunteers who do so much to make Edenbridge the caring place it is.Young people from the Edenbridge Players, Forge Singers and Town Band; local cricket, football and rugby clubs; and the Air Cadets, Guides and Scouts attended, bringing with them displays showcasing their activities.
Over light refreshments, guests were able to mingle with the youngsters and hear about their groups.The Chairman also presented certificates to six residents of her own choice to acknowledge their excellent work for the town, either recently or over a period of many years.The recipients were Ken Cox for championing the elderly and disabled; Ron Holmes, retiring after 42 years as Secretary of the Fuchsia and Pelargonium Society; Sue Laver for encouraging tourism and providing the town with the annual bonfire celebration; Chris Neal for his work with the unemployed; Matthew Teague for inspiring the Air Cadets; and Jo Thexton for her work on the Stangrove Estate.There are more than 90 groups and organisations serving the needs of Edenbridge.
Council Chairman, Terri Scanes, said, “Many people give up a lot of time to benefit the local community in a wide variety of ways and it is good to recognize their work.”
