High
Rocks, Wellington Rocks, Toad Rock,
Tunbridge
Wells abounds with unusual outcrops of sandstone rock formations
dating back millions of years. These impressive rocks are
now a National Monument but many 1000's of years before stood
a stone age camp. There are acres of sandstone rocks entwined
in the beautiful countryside providing senic walks in picturesque
woodland.
Wellington Rocks are situated
on the Common and are the closest to town.

| Toad Rock is situated
at Rusthall, the Manor who's Lord is still the owner of the
Chalybeate Spring (and much of the Pantiles). The rock is
so named because of its appearance, like a giant toad! |
| High
Rocks 2 miles to the west of the town, the outcrops
were once a pre-historic, Iron Age, fortified encampment where
the local settlers would gather their families and livestock
when raided by other marauding tribesmen. Nowadays it's a
peaceful place to picnic and let the children climb upon the
rocks. But beware! Some of these rocky outcrops are 12 metres
high and enough for amateur rock climbers to practice on!
Nearby there is an inn and restaurant. |
