| West Kent Police would like to send a message to children and young people in readiness for Halloween asking them to have fun but to remember that trick or treat can be a very daunting experience for some elderly or vulnerable people.
In addition the police want parents and guardians to make sure that children are closely supervised if they go trick or treating and preferably only call on those houses where they know the resident is willing to receive trick or treat callers.
Insp Simon Wilshaw, West Kent Police Community Dept said: “We have no wish to stop children having fun but want them to do so safely and responsibly.”
He added: “Parents of older teenagers need to explain to them how frightened the elderly and vulnerable can be by groups of young people who might be both bigger and stronger than they are. If anyone does get unwelcome callers or feels threatened in any way they should not hesitate to call the police” |
