Appeal for white truck sighting after armed gang steal ‘substantial’ cash haul from security depot

Detectives from Kent Police’s serious and organised crime unit are hunting an armed gang who stole a substantial amount of cash from a security depot in Tonbridge during the night.

Four men wearing balaclavas and carrying handguns threatened and then tied up a number of staff at the Securitas depot in Vale Road before loading cash into a white Renault truck.

The gang are believed to have driven away in the van shortly after 2.15am this morning. Police were alerted after staff were able to activate an alarm about an hour later.

None of the members of staff were hurt during the robbery.

Kent Police officers are at the scene, talking to staff and conducting a forensic examination of the depot.

Detective Chief Inspector Tim Smith, who is leading the investigation, said: “We need help from the public to trace the white Renault truck, which by all accounts is quite new. Anyone who thinks they may have seen a vehicle of this type either arriving or leaving the depot, or being driven in the area, should contact Kent Police.

“Also, if you saw anything suspicious or anyone acting oddly around the depot, please contact us.”

People can call Kent Police on 01622 690690. Alternatively people can ring Kent CrimeStoppers on 0800 555111. Callers to this free number do not have to leave tbeir name and may be eligible for a cash reward.
