Police in West Kent are reminding people to be vigilant and not let unexpected callers into their homes.
The reminder follows two unsuccessful attempts by someone purporting to be a meter reader from the gas board to get into homes in Westerham and the Bradbourne Vale Road area, Sevenoaks this morning, Friday 26 May at 10.40 and 11.35am respectively.
On both occasions the residents refused entry and checked with their gas supplier to see if they had sent anyone.
The man was carrying a clipboard and had some sort of identification but when one of the residents asked to check it the man refused and left.
Insp Rob Chitham said: ‘These residents are to be congratulated for the way they dealt with this caller. If someone turns up who you are not expecting do not let them into your home even if they look or sound plausible. Ring the police if you have any doubts.’
