The mother of Christopher Alaneme, the 18 year old who was fatally stabbed in Sheerness, has paid tribute to her son and urged anyone who has not yet come forward but has information about his murder to contact Kent Police.
Agatha Alaneme describes her son as a ‘lovely, humble, respectful, polite and promising young man’ in a statement she is issuing to media as police continue their inquiries into Christopher’s death and the stabbing of another man, who was released from hospital yesterday.
She also thanks the people of Sheerness for their support in the aftermath of the stabbings in Sheerness High Street shortly before midnight on 21 April.
Kent Police is today continuing to question a 29-year-old man who was arrested on Friday last week when he walked into a police station in London with his solicitor. The man was arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder. Last night at 9pm magistrates granted officers a further 27-hour extension to hold him in custody.
Four other men have previously been arrested on suspicion of murder and attempted murder and have been bailed. One other man has been arrested in connection with the investigation and has also been bailed.
Detectives investigating the stabbings are continuing to urge anyone who has not come forward but may have information about what happened to contact the incident room hotline – 01622 654860.
‘It is still really important that anyone who saw any of the events that night or who knows something about what happened should contact the police,’ said Superintendent Steve Corbishley, the Mid Kent policing area’s deputy commander.
Agatha Alaneme’s full tribute to Christopher is below:
‘It has now been 17 days since my lovely and only son Chris was taken from me. It has been a huge and devastating loss to our family, and everyone that knew him.
‘He was a lovely, humble, respectful, polite and promising young man. Chris told me so many times that Sheerness is a lovely place, and everyone is so nice. They welcomed him with open arms.
‘I am so grateful touched and overwhelmed by the love and respect shown to us Chris’s family by the people of Sheerness. I know that there are many wonderful people who have already helped the police with their investigation. I am also sure that there are many more people who could help, that for whatever reason, have not yet come forward.
‘I would like to ask those people who saw what happened, or saw or heard anything which may help to come forward. Please do not hesitate, otherwise history could repeat itself. Chris is gone; it could be someone else tomorrow. I would like to put a stop to that, we don’t wish that on any other family. This has ripped my heart apart and that of the whole family.’ |
