Kent Police Authority searches for new members

The Kent Police Authority is calling on the public to join as independent members.  The role will give people a chance to have their say in policing priorities and performance on behalf of communities.  The Authority sets the police council tax, agrees the budget and scrutinises Kent Police performance.

A total of four independent member places are available. Successful candidates can expect to spend at least two days each week on their police authority role in exchange for an allowance and expenses.

The role requires a term of up to four years, working alongside a team of independent members, magistrates and councilor members.

Ann Barnes, Chair of the Kent Police Authority said: We need members of the public to join and share their views.  Police authorities are making every effort to reflect views of communities but this really is your chance to help make a difference.  This is an interesting time to join as we continue to introduce neighbourhood policing. I urge anyone who cares about the policing of their community to contact us and apply.

We are looking for applicants who have skills in management, business, and public service.  We particularly want to hear from women, younger people and people from minority groups who will enable us to reflect the local diversity of Kent.

To find out more visit our website www.kentpa.police.uk.  Closing date for applicants is the 17 November.
