Licensing seminar sells out
A seminar organised by Sevenoaks District Council that covers the new licensing laws has proved to be so popular that another session has been booked up for Monday 25 October.
The sessions are targeted at local publicans, restaurant managers and anyone who will be affected by the new licensing regime. They give an overview of the Licensing Act 2003, health and safety in licensed premises and how to prevent noise complaints. Kent Police will give a presentation on the enforcement of the new regulations and there will be feedback about the licensing pre-consultation that has been carried out by the Council. There will also be a question and answer session.
Anthony Garnett, Licensing Manager at Sevenoaks District Council, says: "We are naturally delighted that these sessions have proved to be such a success with the people who live and work in the District that will be affected by the changes. It is very important that we work in partnership with licensees - so if you think you would benefit from the seminar, please do get in touch."
As a result of the Licensing Act 2003, the power to grant liquor licences is to move from the Magistrates' Courts to the Council. Although the changes will not come into effect until they have been confirmed by Central Government, they are likely to be in place by late 2005. The licences will cover everything from pubs and off-licences to indoor sporting events, hotels and cinemas.
