Have your say on planning for people
Residents of Sevenoaks District are being asked for their views on how they would like to be consulted on planning issues in the future, as part of a major exercise to involve local people and businesses in the planning process.
Sevenoaks District Council is currently working on a draft version of the 'Statement of Community Involvement', which sets out methods for involving the community in planning applications and in the preparation of planning policies for the District.
The final statement will play a vital role in the development of the Local Development Framework, which will gradually replace the Local Plan from 2006. The Local Development Framework will set out in detail the District's planning policies.
Cllr Jill Davison, Cabinet Member with responsibility for Planning, says: "It is essential to hear everyone's ideas when we are taking these important steps forward. Future planning in the District will impact on everyone so we need to agree how we discuss and act on suggestions that come forward. This first draft has been shaped through meetings and discussions with community representatives. However, we recognise that it is vital to get residents' views on the approach outlined, so please do let us know what you think."
Residents can view a copy of the Statement of Community Involvement from the Council Offices in Sevenoaks, local offices in Swanley and Edenbridge and libraries throughout the District. Alternatively, it is available as a PDF document on the Council's website www.sevenoaks.gov.uk by clicking on 'Planning and Building Control', 'Plans and Policies' and then 'Statement of Community Involvement'. Residents can also fill in an online application form on the same page on the website.
Residents wishing to comment on the document should write to: LDF Team, Argyle Road, Sevenoaks, Kent, TN13 1GN, e-mail policy.environment@sevenoaks.gov.uk or complete the online form on the website by following the links above.
