Still time to go wild in your garden
Sevenoaks District residents have until the end of the month to enter their gardens in the Council’s free ‘Gardening for Wildlife’ award scheme 2005.
The scheme, launched in March, aims to make local gardens more tempting for local wildlife, and is open to individuals, community groups, schools and businesses. The closing date for entry forms is 31 May 2005. So whether your garden is small or large, from a window box to an allotment, this scheme is for you.
Entry is easy, all you need to do is complete a simple questionnaire about your garden. All participants will receive a free ‘Go Wild in the Garden’ information pack crammed with wildlife gardening advice and ideas. As part of the scheme volunteer judges from Kent Wildlife Trust will award a gold, silver or bronze certificate to individuals for their efforts.
Hayley Brooks, Sevenoaks District Council’s Community Development Officer says: “This is a great opportunity for people to think about how they garden and make small changes to benefit wildlife. We have been overwhelmed by the interest it has generated and we have sent out over 150 free information packs. Volunteer judges will begin to visit gardens during June so there is still time for people to complete their Entry Form”.
Everyone who enters their garden will be invited to a celebration evening on 6 October in the Council Chambers at Sevenoaks District Council’s Argyle Road offices. At the evening, all entries will be included in a free prize draw to win an impressive wildlife garden planter.
Closing date for entries is 31 May 2005. To receive your award scheme entry form and FREE ‘Go Wild in the Garden’ information pack, please call Hayley Brooks at the Council on 01732 227272 or e-mail hayley.brooks@sevenoaks.gov.uk
