PHOTOCALL - Edenbridge steps back in time

Some older Edenbridge residents will be taking a trip back in time next week when an innovative performance of war time stories, collected from across the area, comes to the town.

Members of the Edenbridge Older Lifestyles Group, which is a partnership project between South West Kent PCT and Sevenoaks District Council, will be taking a nostalgic look back on Wednesday (26 April) at the Edenbridge Centre when the Sevenoaks District Community Theatre performs “What’ll It Be Like”.

The performance involves stories collected from the years just after the Second World War presented in dramatised form. The script is built around everyday post-war topics like rationing, holidays, jobs and shortages.

Diana Edwardes, Sevenoaks District Community Theatre's secretary, says: "Due to the demand for our productions last year, we have created a more portable format that can be set up anywhere at anytime. We are really pleased to be able to bring our performance to Edenbridge as it offers people the chance to have a captivating look back at a fascinating time in this country’s history."

Cllr Felicity Broomby, Council Cabinet Member with responsibility for community development, adds: “The Edenbridge Older Lifestyles Group is a fantastic way for older residents in the area to make new friends and find out how they can stay independent and healthy. I am sure all the members of this group are looking forward to the performance which promises to be a very interesting reflection on days gone by and war time memories from around the area."

The Edenbridge Older Lifestyles group is totally free and aims to provide healthy lifestyles information, activities and advice for anyone living in the Edenbridge area over the age of 60. It was set up in March 2005 following recommendations from the South West Kent PCT's Edenbridge Health Needs Assessment.

The Group meet every Wednesday at 11.30am in the Edenbridge Centre, Four Elms Road, and minibus transport can be arranged if necessary. Weekly guest speakers attend the meetings to offer advice on topics such as safety in the home, fall prevention exercises and specific health matters.

Sevenoaks District Community Theatre is an initiative of Sevenoaks District Arts Council, funded by Sevenoaks District Council, which aids small arts groups in the District.
