Take the EZ STEPZ to fitness at Edenbridge
A pilot dance project in Edenbridge has proved such a hit that it has been extended giving even more local residents the chance to join in with professional dancers and get fit.
The EZ STEPZ hip-hop dance classes will run every Tuesday at Edenbridge Leisure Centre from 10.30am to 11.30am until the end of September at a discounted price of £2 per person.
A free creche is provided so parents can attend whilst their children are looked after by trained creche workers at the Leisure Centre. Creche places are limited and people are advised to book in advance by contacting the Leisure Centre on 01732 865665.
The weekly classes will be run by Sevenoaks District Council's EZ STEPZ Dance Team which features Ryan Mullings, who has performed as a support dancer on Fame Academy and provided backing vocals on X Factor.
Cllr Felicity Broomby, Sevenoaks District Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for healthy living, says: "Anyone can come along to these classes, regardless of age or ability. It is a great way to get fit and meet people and as a new and fun dance routine is learnt each week, you can just turn up and join in at any time."
The daytime dance classes were launched for a 12 week trial period in May along with evening dance classes for 11 to 18 year olds. The evening dance classes had more than 180 attendees during the trial period, which has now ended. As a result of attending the classes, two young people took part in the the BBC’s Big Dance in Brighton on 15 July. The class will be relaunched later this year.
The dance classes have been organised by Sevenoaks District Council in partnership with Sencio Community Leisure and South West Kent Primary Care Trust.
EZ STEPZ Dance is part of the Healthy Edenbridge Network - local agencies working with the community to improve health and wellbeing.
