Press Release - July 2006

PHOTOCALL - Youth Zone gets into the carnival atmosphere!

The Youth Zone will be offering children and young people even more fun and games as it moves into its second week today.

For the first ever time each of the five weeks of this summer’s In the Zone Summer Programme has a theme. The second week is carnival week.

The week gets off to a spectacular start as the Youth Zone team visit Halstead for the first ever time today with the Kent Circus School workshop team. Tuesday sees a day full of carnival fun and games at Crockenhill Cricket Meadow, and this is followed up with worldwide festival fun at Ide Hill Recreation Ground on Wednesday.

Thursday promises to be a colourful day, when the Youth Zone team will be making carnival outfits and having a procession at the Village Green in Leigh. Also on Thursday there will be a Summer Slam football fun day held by Charlton FC and Sencio Community Leisure, although the Youth Zone and staff will not be at this venue.

The week is rounded off in tricky fashion with a magic day at Fawkham Primary School Field on Friday, when children and young people will have the chance to make and perform their own magic tricks.

As well as all this the team has circus skills, sports and team games, arts and crafts and face painting on offer every day, so there will be something for everyone!

Activities will run from 11am to 3.30pm each day, weather permitting, without the need to book in advance as activities are run on a turn up and join in basis. Young people are registered when they arrive and leave the site, although under eights must be accompanied and supervised by a parent or carer at all times. Please bring a packed lunch if you would like to stay for the day.

This year the Youth Zone Team has got new equipment, new ideas and even more staff, so more children and young people can join in the fun.

The dates and details of the In the Zone Summer Programme and other exciting summer activities can be found by viewing the young people's pages on the Council's website www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/youngpeople or by calling the Council on 01732 227000.

Alternatively, pick up one of the yellow leaflets that have been distributed to schools, parish councils, youth groups, libraries and leisure centres across the District.

For more information about the In the Zone Summer Programme, contact Sophie Lord, the Council's Youth Development Co-ordinator, on 01732 227492 or e-mail sophie.lord@sevenoaks.gov.uk.
