Affordable housing on the horizon

Sevenoaks residents looking to get on the first rung of the housing ladder could benefit from some new affordable housing in the Greatness area of the town.

An agreement was reached at Sevenoaks District Council’s Cabinet meeting last week (Thursday 19 January) to sell a plot of Council owned land for £112,500 to West Kent Housing Association to aid a potential housing scheme in the area.

The land lays to the rear of 138 and 140 Seal Road which is the site for the proposed development of six one bedroomed and nine two bedroom flats. The scheme has been prepared by West Kent Housing Association and a local development company who own the two houses in question.

Cllr Ramsay, the Council’s Cabinet member with responsibility for property, says: “Selling this piece of land gives the Council funds which can be spent on services for the public and will provide affordable housing in the area for those looking to buy a property for the first time. The land has no development potential in its own right, so it is a sensible decision all round”.

A planning application for the proposed scheme is currently being prepared and is expected to be received in the coming weeks.
