Time to face the music and dance for Edenbridge residents

Time to face the music and dance for Edenbridge residents

Edenbridge residents will be able to relive classic music of a bygone age when the magical era of afternoon tea dances returns to the town by popular demand next month.

On Wednesday 1 November residents of the town can visit Edenbridge Leisure Centre to enjoy an afternoon of dancing and nostalgic music provided by a live band.

The tea dance will run from 12noon to 2pm, and as well as local band ‘Sounds Familiar’ providing the live music, there will be sandwiches and tea and coffee on offer. Tickets cost £4 per person, and must be bought in advance from the Leisure Centre.

A tea dance was held in Edenbridge in June and was a resounding success with over 50 people of all ages enjoying an afternoon of socialising, dancing and music.

Cllr Felicity Broomby, Sevenoaks District Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for community development, says: "The last dance was so popular, and everyone who took part said they had a very enjoyable afternoon and would like to see more regular tea dances, so I am absolutely delighted that we have been able to work with our partners to fulfill their request!"

The tea dances are organised by Sevenoaks District Council, Sencio Community Leisure and West Kent PCT, and are one of many healthy lifestyle initiatives being set up by partners working in Edenbridge.

The dances aim to to get more people involved in community events to reduce isolation, as well as providing a fun way for people to get fitter and active in their local community.
