Chairman backs poppy appeal 2006
Sevenoaks District Council’s Chairman, Cllr Alison Cook, is appealing to the local community for its generous support for the Royal British Legion’s ‘Poppy appeal’.
Cllr Cook, says: "The Royal British Legion continues to give invaluable care, support and advice to the many ex-service men and women who seek its aid. I am asking residents to dig deep into their pockets and give generously for the sake of those who have served and those who continue to serve our country in action overseas."
Last year, the appeal raised well in excess of £24m thanks to the commitment and generous contributions from the general public.
This year the Legion continues to play a central role in helping families of British service men and women who died in Iraq and helping those who have been injured and traumatised to return to normal civilian life.
Poppies will be available at Sevenoaks District Council's main offices in Argyle Road, Sevenoaks.
The Chairman will attend Remembrance Day services on 12 November at the War Memorial, Sevenoaks Vine at 10.50am with Sevenoaks Town Mayor, Cllr Mrs Margaret Crabtree.
She will also join Cllr Mrs Lesley Dyball, Mayor of Swanley, for the Salute at the Swanley War Memorial at 2.30pm before attending the Wreath Laying Ceremony at 2.40pm and the afternoon service at St Mary’s Church at 3pm.
