Help is at hand for older Edenbridge residents who are curious about the internet when a free computer course starts in the town later this month.
The ‘Silver Surfers’ course will run for five weeks, starting on Saturday 14 October, and is for anyone in the Edenbridge area over the age of 65 who has no, or very little, previous experience of computers.
The course will be held at Edenbridge Leisure Centre from 10am to 11am. It aims to give attendees a basic understanding of computers for personal use, and to teach them how to use the internet, send e-mails and write letters on the computer.
Cllr Felicity Broomby, Sevenoaks District Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for community development, says: "When you have no experience of computers, attempting to use the Internet and send e-mails can seem a daunting prospect, when it needn’t be. This course will give older residents the chance to join up with others who have limited experience of computers and to learn together. It is sure to be popular though and spaces are limited, so I would urge anyone interested to get in touch straight away!"
The event is being organised in association with the weekly Edenbridge Older Lifestyles Group. The group is free to join and aims to provide healthy lifestyle information, activities and advice for anyone living in the Edenbridge area over the age of 65.
