Edenbridge and Westerham residents are being asked for their comments on proposed new parking restrictions drawn up following requests made by local people.
The proposals were drafted by Sevenoaks District Council following informal consultation held during the spring with local residents, residents associations and the town council’s.
The suggested changes have been proposed for a variety of reasons which include, to make a number of junctions safer by maintaining visibility, to allow the picking up and dropping off of elderly residents at Queens Court in Edenbridge, to allow better access for emergency vehicles in particular areas, to ease vehicle movement and to maintain access to properties.
Cllr Gary Williamson, the Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for parking, says: "After speaking to local people when we carried out the informal consultation during the spring we were given an idea of where new restrictions could improve road safety. We then visited all these sites to draw up the proposals. Working with the local residents, who have a thorough knowledge of their towns is of the utmost importance to us, so I would urge local people to give us their comments on these proposals."
The proposals are on display at Edenbridge library and at the District Council offices in Sevenoaks, and can be viewed online by visiting the Council’s website, www.sevenoaks.gov.uk/transport, and going to the ‘Parking Restrictions’ page.
The Council has also written to residents and businesses in the area asking for their comments, and notices will be placed on-street in the roads affected.
If residents have any comments they can send them in writing, quoting ‘Amendment 11’, to the Community and Planning Services Director, Parking & Amenities, Sevenoaks District Council, Argyle Road, Sevenoaks, Kent. TN13 1HG, or by e-mail to transportation@sevenoaks.gov.uk.
Interested parties have until 16 October 2006 to comment on these proposals.
