Edenbridge residents have a slice of fun!

A group of older local residents grabbed a 'pizza' the action recently when they visited Bore Place in Chiddingstone.

The 27 Edenbridge residents spent an afternoon making pizza as part of a visit by the Edenbridge Older Lifestyles Group, which aims to provide healthy lifestyle information, activities and advice for anyone living in the Edenbridge area over the age of 65.

The event, which took place on 23 August, was organised by Commonwork, a group of organisations based on the 500-acre Bore Place estate that create learning opportunities for people of all ages.

Avril Rand, 75, who attends the group, says: "Since I joined the Older Lifestyles Group I have had a fantastic time, and it is really enjoyable to go on these trips with the new friends I have made. I think most of us considered ourselves good cooks, but not many of us had made a pizza completely from scratch, so it was quite a fun experience!"

Cllr Felicity Broomby, Sevenoaks District Council’s Cabinet Member with responsibility for community development, says: "The Older Lifestyles Group plays an important role in providing support to older residents in their local community. Not only that it offers a regular meeting place for local people to get together and stay independent and healthy, as well as a variety of organised events. It is a great place to make new friends too!"

The group is totally free and meets every Wednesday at 11.30am in the Edenbridge Centre, Four Elms Road. Weekly guest speakers attend the meetings to offer advice on topics such as safety in the home, fall prevention exercises and specific health matters.

The group was set up in March 2005 following recommendations from the Edenbridge Health Needs Assessment. This is a partnership project between South West Kent PCT and Sevenoaks District Council.
