One of the major roads to be affected will be Crouch House Road, as the main railway line from Edenbridge to Oxted crosses this main road, and the long awaited repairs to the bridge to strengthen its foundations and framework, will be affecting the flow of traffic along this route.
The road takes much of the local traffic along the back route to Limpsfield and Oxted, and will be closed for about four months, from May 18th and for those who live in that direction it will cause some severe problems.
The Kent and Surrey Golf Club, a very popular venue for golfers in and around Edenbridge, which are based in Crouch House Road, is directly affected by the roadworks.
Although there will be diversions in place to re-direct those who want play at the club, it should not present too much of a problem, as those determined to play their sport will only be delayed for a short time during traffic rush hours.
For the residents at St Bredlades Court, it will become somewhat more difficult for them, as they will have to use the diversions in place and via Hilders Lane, then be able to reach the main town.
For people who can only use the bus, and there are only three scheduled buses every week along this road, it will add another problem to their journey, as it will also have to use the intended diversions to carry them into Edenbridge via a longer route, and contend with the traffic hold-ups, making the journey for the passengers far longer.
The other major disruption will be in Clinton Lane, Bough Beech, as the railway bridge there will be undergoing repairs, the walls that support the banks alongside the bridge will be rebuilt and strengthened, also an anti-vandalism steel mesh will be installed.
The huge volume of traffic that uses this main road from Edenbridge to Tonbridge, the B2027, will have to use an alternative route to miss this part of the roadworks completely, and there will be traffic diversions in place from June 7th, onwards for two months.
Although major repairs to these two railway bridges will create problems for all those who work in and around Edenbridge, the diversions in place should hopefully ease the build-up of traffic, and allow it to move more freely in and around the area, with as few problems as possible to the local residents and visitors to the town. |
