Lord Mayor “Richard Whittington” Opens New Exhibitions
Kent

The local Town Museum had two very special visitors today, Saturday April 4th to mark the official opening of two new exhibitions.

Justin Martin-Lawrence dressed up in the robes of the era as the Lord Mayor London...Richard Whittington, his splendid costume was made by Kay Marsh. He was also accompanied by his famous pet who was depicted by Jane Higgs, who had her face expertly painted in the likeness of the well known cat.

It was certainly very impressive to see this famous figure strolling around the Museum in the Robes of the the Lord Mayor, Justin looked and acted the part perfectly...so did the cat!

Inside there is a magnificent display of costumes of that era with life-size models showing clearly what they would have worn during that time, on the walls there are excellent written displays with drawings about the history of the Lord Mayor.

The other splendid exhibition which was sponsored very generously by Anna Griffin, who owns and runs the Edenbridge Bookshop in the square, was an art competition with the theme and subject of “My Home”, in which young children used their own personal art skills to portray their own homes.

There is a very interesting display showing the drawings and paintings of these children and adults who are certainly very talented using paintbrushes, crayons, and pastels.

Winners from the children's art competition will be displayed along with the adult entries for a month until May 4th.

The adult entries will be judged by a visitor vote, and the children's entries by a panel of judges.

Many visitors were there to enjoy this special coffee morning and the opening of these wonderful exhibitions, and young children queued up to have their own faces expertly painted in different styles.

Please support your Local Town Museum...and pop in and enjoy these two excellent exhibitions, and see for yourself the splendid display of costumes, and artwork from the local residents.

I would like to thank the Museum's Honorary Curator Jane Higgs, and the officials and volunteers who kindly showed me these wonderful exhibitions, and assisted in making this a special event for the local residents of Edenbridge to visit and enjoy.
