| As time has passed and new flood plans have been secured in place along the River Eden in an attempt to put an end to the flooding problem, the news now indicates that there could well be more serious flooding in Edenbridge, despite the vast cost over the many years to install flood protection barriers.
The Environment Agency has proposed a spending of £6 million to combat the still dangerous problem of the River Eden flooding, by building a new flood protection barrier.
But the risk to over 850 homes in the Edenbridge area from future flooding is still a very serious possibility and a real threat.
Experts in the scientific, engineering, and environmental fields are predicting that it is going to get worse due to climate change, with hotter and drier summers, and warmer winters, that this could have a very serious effect with the possible flooding of Edenbridge.
This does not hold much hope out for those that live in this town, who are worried home owners that live along and near the river, these residents are extremely concerned about the high risk of another flood destroying their homes and belongings.
Not only with these foreboding predictions are the worried residents now contemplating seriously, but also the fact that another expert also predicted that if the Eden flooded within the next 40 years, that those in the direct area of the flood would have to contend with as much as 40 percent more water, than if the river Eden burst it's banks tomorrow.!
The experts also remind those that live in the vulnerable flood areas of Edenbridge & Tonbridge to “prepare for the worst”, they are advising those with any fears to sign up and enrol in the...Free Flood Warning Service...where they can be notified via e-mail, sms/text, or by telephone...that a flood is imminent in their area or town, thereby take evasive action and make the necessary preparations well in advance before the flood water has reached a dangerous level.
With such expensive propositions in the pipeline to save this particular area from flooding, with the spending of £6 million on a new flood defence barrier in the near future, and a total of over £150 million to be spent in the next 100 years on defence systems, residents all along the banks of the Eden, not only in Edenbridge and Tonbridge, but far down the rivers route, are all hoping without fail that the experts will find a solution to the ever increasing threat and risk from the River Eden flooding, bursting its banks, and destroying their homes and shops...!!!
