Dedication of the New Edenbridge Town Sign
Kent

Beautiful summer weather certainly gave residents a day to remember as the new Edenbridge town sign was officially dedicated today.

The magnificently designed sign is situated near the Great Stone Bridge beside the river Eden, in the aptly-named Riverside Gardens.

The dedication ceremony was attended by Edenbridge Town Council Chairman Cllr Mrs Terri Scanes, who had the privilege to unveil the new sign, accompanied by members of the Town Council, with representatives from local clergy including Fr Chris Keen – St Lawrence’s Catholic Church, the Rev Graham Wood – The Eden Church, the Rev Stephen Mitchell – parish church of St Peter and St Paul, and also the Great Stone Bridge Trust, the British Legion – Mr & Mrs Froud (Mrs Froud representing its ladies’ section), Sgt Jo Johnson from Kent Police, Gary Milan from the Fire Service, Jody Harding – Chairman of the Eden Valley Tourism Forum, and members of the Village Sign Society.

As the town councillors and guests gathered round the sign admiring its workmanship, designed and fabricated by Rod Fender of Kent-based Black Forge Art, Cllr Scanes welcomed everyone and thanked all who had contributed to the project.  Those present were led by the Rev Mitchell in a dedication prayer, after which he and the Council Chairman untied the ceremonial ribbon around the new sign, to applause from everyone in attendance.  The group then moved on to Rickards Hall for refreshment.

Local residents who watched the ceremony were asked what they thought of the new Edenbridge sign, and they all clearly expressed in their own words how “wonderful” and “spectacular” it looked, and that “the new sign at last put Edenbridge on the map”.

The Edenbridge Town Council office is located behind the town Museum, at Doggetts Barn, 72A High Street. 01732 865368.
