As a result of the recession hitting companies across the country, local firm Marsland & Co, and Marsland Commercial Windows have had to axe 34 jobs in the recent hard hitting crisis.
With the parent company Stenmar Aluminium being owed in excess of £1m by bad debts and non-payment by large clients, the company has sadly had to call in the receivers and cease trading, accompanied by the loss of so many staff.
The challenge the company faced for many months was to try and recoup the losses that were owed, but although endeavouring to try and restore the situation by this means, it sadly failed.
But as the recession bit deeper it deteriorated considerably quicker than estimated and the debts that were owed to them were practically impossible to recover.
This same situation has been faced by many companies around the country which was similar to Stenmar…as they became immersed in the terrible results of the recession many had to make the same ultimate decision about their employees and had no real answer to the serious problem confronting them, but to call in the administrators.
Marsland & Co was founded nearly fifty years ago and established a large complex in Fircroft Way, Edenbridge, throughout the years the factory comprised of a great number of staff, and was a major employer to many in the town in their trade as glazing fitters not only to businesses, and large companies but also to those in the public sector.
The company has had many years of trouble free trading, but this recession has created a dramatic downturn of events which has shocked those who have worked for both the Stenmar/Marsland companies for many years, and have now lost their jobs
Those who now face the shock being unemployed with no income are left in no illusion as to what the consequences may now be since this has happened, many have mortgages to pay and families to feed, and the stress now forced upon them if they cant find work will undoubtably be serious for them all.
