| Dave Mansi, the first man to begin Judo lessons and to introduce this exceptionally effective form of self-defence in Edenbridge over 40 years ago, will celebrate its founding presence in the town by holding a special reunion and social event on April 1st.
Many are expecting to attend to celebrate with Dave the early days of Judo in the town, and now the possible sad closure of such an exceptional form in this art of self-defence seems evident to close.
From its very early beginnings in the town back in the 1960’s, and the very few willing volunteers that were to face his giant frame in the Dojo in those days, Dave has gone on to dedicate over 40 years to Judo the sport that he loves.
He has through his own determination devoted his life’s work to teaching this art not only to young children, to the elderly in years but to anyone willing to spend the time in enjoying this form of self-defence that Dave himself has taught to the masses.
Since 1971 Dave has been teaching the art of Judo at the St Paulinus Hall, Marlpit Hill, many thousands have passed through his strong and capable hands in the art and form of Judo since those days.
Sadly after all these years the Judo club that Dave has nurtured from the very early days, to its maturity today may well come to a untimely end, his son Paul aged 36, who assists his dad also feels the loss as he himself has dedicated many years supporting the club.
Dave has spent his own money in keeping the club going and most certainly is not in it for the money, it’s his own deep integrity, dedication, and love for Judo which he has given so much time and devotion to that deserves our commendation for his memorable actions for the community of Edenbridge.
If anyone in Edenbridge or the surrounding area would like to support Dave and his son Paul Mansi, and keep the Judo Club alive in the town...
