Shelter Box
Kent

When life threatening natural disasters occur around the world, thousands of volunteers are there to assist those who have lost all their possessions and homes in the tragedy.

Not only are medical facilities so important, but the priority of sheltering those who have had their homes destroyed an even more necessary lifeline, especially to provide a “home”for families in such desperate need.

ShelterBox is an absolute miracle, giving such hope to so many people

This is where the ShelterBox is an absolute miracle, giving such hope to so many people in areas struck by earthquakes, tsunamis, floods, hurricanes, and monsoons.

Three local residents from the Edenbridge Rotary Club...Tom Wallis,Brenda Risdon-President, and Charles Laver, volunteered their time to demonstrate the ShelterBox in the High Street, which was an amazing display to see the contents of this ShelterBox laid out inside the tent.

The ShelterBox is made of tough plastic, but the contents inside have been a lifesaver to hundreds of thousands of people in stricken areas suffering terrible disasters.

Below is the Shelter Box Fact Sheet from July 2008, which was handed out by the Rotary Club Volunteers...

THE BOX

Each box will normally contain a 10 person tent, plus a selection of other equipment to help an extended family survive for a minimum of six months. The exact contents will depend on local conditions and what is most needed, but will generally include blankets, a multi-fuel stove or a wood burning stove, cooking equipment, water containers and purification tablets, a basic tool kit and a children's pack.

Each ShelterBox is individually numbered and donors where and when their box has been sent via  its unique number.
