EDENBRIDGE
Kent’s First FAIRTRADE Town
Sheltering from the pouring rain under a colourful umbrella Terri Scanes deftly unveiled the new sign which celebrates and marks the considerable achievement of achieving Fairtrade Town status ahead of all other towns in the county.
Edenbridge has now been joined by many other larger Kentish Towns who want to demonstrate that they believe in not only purchasing local produce, but also in buying overseas produce like tea, coffee, chocolate and fruit from growers who have not been exploited, and also put some of the profits back into their communities (all guaranteed by the Fairtrade Mark). There are now 460 Fairtrade Towns across the country.
The Town Council Chairman was supported by members of the Edenbridge Fairtrade Group. This group has organised various Fairtrade experiences during the Fortnight, so don’t miss the school children’s work in the Co-op, Fairtrade specials at the Old Eden, Self Unlimited, BRIDGES and SENCIO Cafe in the Leisure Centre, display in the Bookshop and the exciting Main Event in and around Rickard’s Hall (and the Band Hut) on Saturday 6th March between eleven and one. Here there will be lots of interesting and delicious things to sample, try out, listen to, buy and look at. Entry is free. |
