The local Eden Valley Museum celebrates it's 10th anniversary
Kent

The local Eden Valley Museum celebrates it's 10th anniversary on Saturday with Lord Astor opening the proceedings by cutting a beautiful cake made by local volunteers, he was accompanied by the original project manager Don Garman, the Honorary Curator of the Eden Valley Museum Jane Higgs M.B.E. and Chairman Alan Smith the owner of  the Topfoto Gallery in Edenbridge and many other local officials and friends to witness the opening ceremony.

The anniversary also had a special guest visit, Catherine Southon, one of the world famous Sotheby's antique professional experts and well known TV personality, who is regularly seen on “Flog It” and “Bargain Hunt”, who came to give valuations on one of her expert fields of “Teddies & Toys”.

Many people turned-up with their  teddies and toys and to get an expert valuation from Catherine, they all waited patiently and in anticipation for their turn to come hoping that they had in their possession a toy or teddy of significant value.

As the many visitors came into the Museum the organ grinder turned the handle and played some memorable tunes on his wonderful old music machine, parents and children also a great time wandering around looking at the stalls and enjoying the activities available.

Their was refreshments available as well as coffee and lunch, with a Tombola stall offering many superb prizes to the winning ticket holders.

The Museum has two wonderful exhibitions now on – 600 years of the history of Doggetts Farm, -where the Museum now stands - and 100 years of Teddies, especially for the young ones and not to be missed!

The Honorary Curator of the Eden Valley Museum Jane Higgs, received her much deserved M.B.E. from Her Majesty The Queen in Her Birthday Honours List, for her services to heritage in the Eden Valley, Kent.

There is a history quiz now on at the Museum which will run until December when the draw will take place for all the winners. Anyone can enter and join in the fun to test their knowledge of history by filling in the quiz sheets, these can be purchased from the Museum or from Edenbridge Book Shop in the Square at £1 each.

For those who haven't visited the Museum, it's a must for all those interested in the local history of Edenbridge and the Eden Valley, there are superb displays on show, and a wonderful collection of old memorabilia and photographs about the town and touch-screen displays to provide further information.
