The Edenbridge Rotary Club, who held a sponsord "Channel Swim" at the swimming pool at the Edenbridge Leisure Centre on Sunday, November 21st, in which literally dozens of eager swimmers, came to a wonderful conclusion and an outstanding success for all those who organised it and those who took part. |
With over 40 swimmers from all ages, plunged into the warm waters of the pool swum their hearts out to cover the distance of 26 miles in support of the Rotary Club's - Help For Heroes and - The Hospice in the Weald - charities.
The "Channel Swim" event was to cover the distance between Dover in Kent, to Calais in France which is about 21 miles, but these 40 swimmers proved that their delight in supporting the whole event had made the two charities concerned hundreds of pounds, with their incredible swimming abilities, in which they all covered with great spirit and pleasure!
Organiser of the event was Colin Ullman-Jones of the Edenbridge Rotary Club, who gave everyone present a very grateful and sincere - Thankyou - for participating, he himself took part and covered a fantastic162 lengths of the pool. Also the local team of eight members of the Edenbridge Pirhanha's Swimming Club who came to join in the swim and covered three miles of the total distance.
Also to mention was a a fantastic lady from Tunbridge Wells, Willa Tomlinson who at 76 years young, gave her very best to cover an incredible and without question 80 lengths of the pool, her own determination and stamina won her great applause from all those there watching her magnificent performance...Well Done Willa...!!!
It was certainly a fantastic day, and all those from the Edenbridge Rotary Club should be proud of their achievements and the excellent organisation of this spectacular event!
With all the swimmers proving that their own stamina had got them their marvellous reward for the two well deserved charities - perhaps one day with their capabilities that they had shown...will get them on a major challenge for the county of Kent and lead them to eventually cover the distance between Dover and Calais, by actually swimming the Channel itself...!!!
Many grateful thanks is expressed to all those of the - Edenbridge Rotary Club - who organised, supported and took part, and to those local "Heroes" who through their stamina and determination gave to this spectacular worthy event and to the two magnificent charities...Congratulations to Them All and Well Done...!!!
