Shelter Box - Rotary Club Raises Money for Haiti Disaster.
Kent

Edenbridge Rotary Club members, Colin Ullmann-Jones, John Martin, Jim Burbridge and Rowland Edwards, braved the cold weather this week, by collecting donations and succeeded in raising nearly £800, which will help to provide Shelterboxes to support the survivors of the terrible and horrific Haiti earthquake disaster.

ShelterBox is an absolute miracle, giving such hope to so many people

The High Street was the perfect place to erect the - Shelterbox, of which many were sent to Haiti for the victims who had lost their houses in the devastation. It is designed as a tent and comes compact in a box with many life-saving accessories, it is an invaluable piece of equipment for those who need shelter so desperately

With the latest death toll reaching over 230, 000, and hundreds of thousands without homes, the Shelterbox has certainly been greeted with very much appreciation by those who will now use them.

Proceeds from a recent Rotary Club's dinner & dance also raised cash for the Haiti victims, all the money raised will be added to their own Shelterbox appeal.

Each Shelterbox costs £490, and the Edenbridge Rotary Club are proud that their endeavours have helped those in need, they also hope to send three of these "Miracle Houses" out, as soon as they can.

THE BOX

Each box will normally contain a 10 person tent, plus a selection of other equipment to help an extended family survive for a minimum of six months. The exact contents will depend on local conditions and what is most needed, but will generally include blankets, a multi-fuel stove or a wood burning stove, cooking equipment, water containers and purification tablets, a basic tool kit and a children's pack.

Each ShelterBox is individually numbered and donors where and when their box has been sent via  its unique number.
