The driver, a 19 year old (address not known) was arrested on suspicion of theft of fuel in connection with the theft of heating oil from the address in Uckfield Lane.
Neighbourhood officer Sgt Richard O’Toole said: ‘We are very grateful to the caller who reported seeing the suspicious vehicles and giving a good description of them. I’m sure a lot of people wouldn’t think that heating oil can be carried in a van. It’s delivered by tanker but thieves taking it away are using vans which are fitted out with tanks in the back and the oil gets siphoned into them.
‘Please don’t hesitate to report something to police if it causes you concern or you think it may be suspicious.’
