Great Donation by John Surtees
John Surtees OBE has personally funded the cost of two First Responder Kits to enable the Edenbridge Community First Responders to continue their vital emergency services within the community.

Local resident John Surtees OBE said “With a background in motorsport, I have spent my life largely chasing time round the race tracks of the world. I know that every second counts. Its marvellous that we have these trained rapid response volunteers in the community who are able to respond quickly and effectively to emergencies. It is my hope that the two First Responder Kits provided will enable them to maximise the number of on-call hours and help save more lives”. David Turner, Team Leader for Edenbridge Community First Responders said 'We are extremely grateful to receive such a generous donation from Mr. Surtees.

As a charitable organisation, we need to fundraise to purchase the necessary equipment for our Responders to provide vital assistance to people who are ill or injured prior to the arrival of the Emergency Services. Mr. Surtees' donation will enable us to purchase two complete Responders Kits, each comprising trauma control resources, oxygen, observation taking tools and a defibrillator. In case of a cardiac arrest, the defibrillator is the most vital piece of equipment we carry, as it is used to deliver a controlled electric shock to try to restore the heart to a normal rhythm. The quicker this happens; the better is the chance of survival. It can really mean the difference between life and death.'The Edenbridge Community First Responders Group is a charitable organisation founded by David Turner in November 2014 with 4 qualified responders. The responders are volunteers trained to respond to emergency 999 calls on behalf of South East Coast Ambulance Service (SECAmb).

The Community First Responders are alerted to an incident at the same time as an NHS Ambulance and are able to respond to emergency incident within the first few critical minutes of a call. Living and working in the community they can be at the scene within the first few minutes of someone falling ill or injured to deliver emergency and possible life saving treatment. Their overall aim as a group is to operate a 24 hour, 7 days a week; 365 days a year FREE emergency response service, and provide education and awareness in First Aid by carrying out demonstrations and talks at local schools and in the community.
