Rotary Club raise funds for ShelterBox
On Saturday (8th December) Edenbridge Rotary Club raised funds for the Shelterbox charirty. The principle of ShelterBox is simple, each box contains a tent and equipment to help people to survive after a disaster like the recent floods in Bangladesh.
Each ShelterBox costs £490 and is designed to be avaliable as quickly as possible to be sent to a disaster zone.
The boxes contain a range of equipment including a ten man tent, water purification tablets and a stove.
The ShelterBox charity was set up by a rotarian and many Rotary groups across the country have raised funds to purchase boxes.
The Edenbridge Rotary club members who braved the conditions on Saturday managed to raise £226 towards the cost of a ShelterBox.
Joan Varley of Edenbridge Rotary Club said 'Despite the horrendous conditions, we collected £226 towards the cost of a ShelterBox from the generous residents of Edenbridge. Everyone who came in to the tent was very impressed with the concept of Shelter Boxes and we hope to stage another collection either shortly before Christmas or in the New Year.'
