The idea of this great service is to give older people in the Edenbridge area the chance to learn how to use computers. The courses are very relaxed and everyone is encouraged to enjoying learning to work with the Internet, email and word processing. When I visited the group everyone was busy getting to grips with writing a letter using a word processor. When I asked members of the group why they were there, the answers were similar, as Rosemary Camden said, “I wanted to learn how to use the Internet and write letters.”

Elizabeth Allen said, “I thought it was time I learnt about computers in general, and I would like to use email.” Mary Batten of Crockham Hill was also keen to use both the Internet and Email. June Budd of Westerham said, “I have been thinking about getting a computer for a while. I am really looking forward to using email and the Internet; I also want to print out maps for when I travel.”

The group may have had different reasons for coming along, but they were all agreed on one thing, “The lessons are great!” After the session I spoke to Tony Fishpool the course tutor, he was keen to point out that it is never to late to learn how to use computers. As he said, “Older people are more than capable of learning to use and enjoy computers.”
So what are you waiting for, surf on down to Edenbridge leisure centre and you will soon be an IT wizard! |
